Companies like Carolina Backwaters, a leading guide service in Charleston, SC, know that having the right fishing apparel is essential for a successful day.

Carolina Backwaters is one of the most popular chartered fishing companies in the Carolinas. Captains Jim and Fred provide anglers of all skill levels the chance to catch a wide variety of inshore fish. Although they can help anglers catch almost anything, they specialize in chartered trips for redfish, a popular sport fish that is abundant in coastal waters up and down the Atlantic. Redfish provide a thrilling fishing experience, and they are the perfect size that they can be caught by even young or inexperienced anglers.

They specialize in educating anglers who want to be more efficient, effective, and catch more fish. If you book a fishing session with Carolina Backwaters, you’ll not only learn how to fish better, you’ll also learn safe, responsible practices for boating and fishing.

One of their most popular services in hands-on private instructions from your own boat. They will come along and teach you how to get the most from your own boat, GPS, fish finder, and the tackle you already have. They will even meet you at the local tackle store or marina and help you make the right purchases, ensuring you don’t waste money on items you won’t need.

Carolina Backwaters is run by captains Jim and Fred. Although neither grew up in the South Carolina, they both landed in the Charleston area and quickly discovered that it offers some of the best saltwater fishing in the world.

Jim is from south Florida, where he fished the water from Ft. Lauderdale to Islamorada. Jim landed in Charleston after a transfer by the military, and although he wasn’t familiar with the surrounding waters, he soon realized that Carolina has some excellent fishing opportunities. He developed a passion for the area that has grown to include conservation efforts and education.

Like Jim, Fred started fishing as a child. He grew up fishing from the New Jersey shore to Hilton Head Island. When Fred moved to Hilton Head Island, he learned the most effective techniques for redfish, trout, flounder, cobia, tarpon, and other saltwater fish. He now enjoys sharing his skills and knowledge, creating videos that demonstrate the most effective fishing techniques, usually focused on redfish.

As you can see from their multiple awards and accomplishments, Carolina Backwaters knows their fishing. They have been winners in multiple Egret Boat Owners Tournaments, the Lowcountry Redfish Cup Savannah Tournament, and the Charleston Coastal Conservation Association Annual Surf Fishing Tournament. They are a S.C. Coastal Conservation Association Preferred Fishing Guide and participant in the SCDNR fish tagging program. When you spend a day with Carolina Backwaters, you’ll be fishing with experts who truly care about the water and the animals that call it home.
