Posted by GILLZ Breathe Like a Fish on

Our little blue planet is teeming with fishing opportunities.

Fishing the local pond never gets old, but sometimes you need to explore the world. What other fish are out there? How to anglers in other countries bring in trophies? Sometimes you catch the travel bug and you just have to go.

If you’re an angler, you have thousands of options in front of you; so let’s take a look at some of the top international fishing destinations across the globe.

Iztapa, Guatemala

Guatemala is known as the Land of Eternal Spring, thanks to seemingly non-stop moderate weather. Iztapa, on the southern end of the country, is the land of eternal sailfish, thanks to endless trophies chomping on your bait. Many anglers in this area will troll through the coastal Pacific waters with baited ballyhoo, and some will even fly fish for these impressive prizes. This is a great place to escape the winter blues, as the prime season for fishing in Iztapa is November through May.

Cape Town, South Africa

People from all over the world visit Cape Town to take in the history, culture, and entertainment. Anglers, however, should visit South Africa’s third-largest city for the fishing. Off the coast of Cape Town, you’ll find abundant tuna that can be caught all year, although the most popular time for tuna fishing is September through June.

The Canary Islands, Spain (West of Morocco)

If you want the full experience of vibrant culture, breath-taking scenery, and outstanding fishing, then the Canary Islands should be on your bucket list. The Canary Islands are kind of like Spain’s Hawaii, an island paradise away from the mainland that offers a wonderful vacation experience. Anglers can visit one of these islands for bluefin, swordfish, yellowfin, wahoo, marlin, and many more.

Ramaganga River, Corbett National Park, India

Want to see some of the most exotic plants and animals in the world? Want to spot wild tigers while going after fish you’ve probably never heard of? Then the Ramaganga River in India’s Corbett National Park is the place to be. Between October and June, this river gives you access to interesting fish species like goonch catfish and mahseer. Conservation is highly regulated, so you’ll need to arrange fishing registration early, usually through your hotel or resort.

The Midfjardará River, Iceland

Few destinations on the globe match the rugged beauty and majestic landscapes of Iceland, also known as the Land of Ice and Fire. There are hundreds of world-class trout streams for anglers and adventurers of all kinds, but the Midfjardará River is known as one of the best. You may not be able to pronounce the river’s name, but you’ll definitely tell stories about the immense joy you experienced while fishing at this top international destination.
