When I’m on the water, I’m focused on fishing. I just want to stay on the water from sun up to sun down without fighting the sun or the bugs. It’s really man versus nature out there. So I drew some chicken scratch on the back of a napkin; I wanted clothes that fit like my skin but breathed like a fish.
In February 2009, I designed a comfortable shirt with mesh panels on the side and a vented mask with gills. That sun gets brutally hot out there. Now I stay cool and dry for the whole day while I am making my limit — or planning for the next tournament. It’s that simple.
